Alberto Antonio "Tony" Lara

Alberto Antonio Lara, better known as “Tony”, 86, peacefully passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at Hospice of The Valley Ryan House. Tony was surrounded by his close family who cared for him in the last few years of his life. He is survived by his son Jon, daughter Michelle, oldest grand-daughter Nikki, 10 other grand and great-grandchildren and last surviving sibling Velia Coronado. He is now reunited with his late wife of 65 years; Clara Lara, oldest daughter Melynda Hodges, son-in-law Bill Hodges, 8 of his siblings and his parents.
Tony was born in Sonora, Arizona on August 4th, 1937, to Jose F. Lara & Refugia Munoz. He spent his childhood in Clifton, Arizona where he met his beloved wife, Clara. They started a family together and eventually moved to Phoenix where Tony pursued his career as a Barber and continued to serve the community as a barber for the next 65 years.
Tony set up shop in several locations across the valley in those 65 years and carried an impressive list of clients who became friends and family. Some were generational clients and most saw Tony for 20 or 30+ years, with his longest client of 50 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 from 2:00-6:00P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Funeral service will take place on Monday, April 15th, at 12:00P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Entombment is to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery inside of the Mausoleum.
