Carmela Alessi

Carmela (Lena) Alessi, widow of Carmelo, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 100. Born in NY and raised in Sicily, Carmela was a seamstress until retirement, spending her leisure time playing cards with friends, cooking for family and friends, and delivering her famous Italian bread to her loved ones. She will forever be remembered for her kind spirit, beautiful smile, her selflessness, as well as her willingness to open her door and heart to anyone in need. She will undoubtedly leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of all those blessed enough to have known and loved her, and her presence will forever be missed. Carmela, mother to one deceased daughter, is survived by her second daughter, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 30th at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1954 N. 24th St., Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2044 N. 48th St., Phoenix. Arrangements entrusted at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
