Alice Janet Cavanaugh Powers

Alice Janet Cavanaugh Powers born March 27, 1928 died peacefully on December 8, 2023 at 95 years of age.  Alice was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Alma and Benjamin Cavanaugh.  

Alice attended St Joseph Academy being taught by the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  She met her husband, John Allen Powers Jr., at the wedding of her girlfriend at which John was the baker of the wedding cake (J A Powers Bakery) in the year 1946. They were married the following year, August 19, 1947.  John and Alice moved to Phoenix, Arizona in January 1955 together they started Powers Steel and Wire Products.  They were a great team with 65 years of marriage.  John preceded Alice in death on August 21, 2011.  

Alice is survived by her five children and their spouses; John A. Powers lll, Jeffery L. Powers and his wife Lisa, Janet A. Powers, Patricia A. Powers and her husband, Michael, and Robert B. Powers.  Nana to 10 grandchildren and great Nana to 10.  Alice loved to travel with her husband and family.  She specially enjoyed traveling with her dearest friend Jerrye Wilmoth.

Alice and John were valued contributors to St. Theresa parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, Mount Claret, Sister’s of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Xavier College Preparatory, Circle the City Hospice, and Mayo Clinic.
