Beloved father, grandfather & patriot, Hector “Andy” Andrade, 93, passed away on February 3, 2011. Born March 30, 1917 in Tubac, AZ to Ramon and Rachel (Gastelum) Andrade, a ranching & dairy family. His great great-grandfather, Augustin Marquez, did sculpting work on the San Xavier Mission near Tucson. The family moved from Tubac to the Phoenix area in 1920, continuing a rural life; he even rode a horse to elementary school! He graduated from Tolleson High School, where he enjoyed basketball and boxing. Attending business college, he met his “dream girl,” Nadine Lemon, whom he married in 1942, his wife of 64 years (who preceded him in death in Oct 2006). The first of his 5 children was born while he served in the Army, in Europe, during WWII. After the war, the family lived in Phoenix, a brief time in Casa Grande & then Scottsdale. He worked 40+ yrs with the State of Arizona. An Administrative Law Judge for the Department of Economic Security covering much of AZ, he retired in 1988, honored as 2nd only to Governor Rose P. Mofford in his length of service to the state. His parallel career spanned 21 years with the AZ Army National Guard to the rank of Major. He finished his military yrs with the US Army Reserve as Lt. Col. He enjoyed deer hunting, loved repairing cars for family and friends & camping with family. He was preceded in death by brothers George, Raymond & James Andrade. He is survived by brothers Oscar (Michelle) & Ed (Peggy) Andrade, sisters Connie Goldian, Esther Killeen, Dora Stanley (Ben), his children: Lynn Andrade (Sandy), Susan Sneathen (Jack), Barbara Harris, Richard Andrade (Betsy), Jeanne Sharp (Don), grandchildren Aaron & Kurt Sneathen, April Witter (Jay), Christopher & Eric Harris, Andra Mahoney (Rob), Kymi Dungy, Maven & Benjamin Andrade, & step-grandchildren Andrew & Alicia Burton. Visitation will be from 5-8pm with a 7pm Rosary, Wednesday, February 9, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Funeral Mass will be at 10am, Thursday, February 10, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ Interment will follow at 12:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
