Barbara Gonzales Hernandez

Bárbara Gonzáles Hernández, 97, took her last breath surrounded by her immediate family on July 20, 2024 in Phoenix, Ariz. She was welcomed into Heaven and reunited with her loving husband of 62 years John G. Hernández, her parents Carmen and Juan Gonzáles, siblings (Manuel, Paul, Emeterio (Teyo), Cecilia Rodríguez, Erlinda Gonzáles, Ruth (Cuca) De La Garza, and countless other relatives. She leaves behind a legacy of family, faith and service to others. She took pride in her work as a secretary to Fr. Luis Baldonado, OFM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for more than a decade. She also was a homemaker and seamstress, and was a caregiver for her mother. 

She is survived by her dedicated children Sally Martinez, Carmen Ribodal (Lope), Lucia Estrada (Benny), and John Hernández (Rosie). Her grandchildren: Lois (Guillermo), Denise, Stephanie (José), Barbara, Joy (Frankie), Suzanne (Gabriel), John, Sonia (Sergio), Jessica, Stephen (Katie), Benjamin, and Lope (Crystal). She is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

As the oldest of 12 children, she also leaves behind her siblings Agnes (Manuel) Gonzáles, John, Louis (Josie), Lydia (Frank) Gonzáles and George (Carmen). 

We are grateful for all the time we were able to spend with her during her 97 years. We look forward to being reunited as a family once again in Heaven. 

Viewing is on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. 

The Funeral Mass is on Saturday, Aug. 3, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1954 N. 24th St. at 11 a.m. The burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St.
