Betty Dickinson left this world peacefully March 7, 2024 at home in Phoenix, Arizona. A loving mother of four daughters and a dear friend to many, Betty will be greatly missed. She was born August 13. 1933 in Sharon Pennsylvania to Luka and Agatha Vranjes. After high school she graduated from Seton Hill college in Greensburg PA with postgraduate work at Loloya University in New Orleans.
While in residency as a clinical dietician in Springfield Missouri, she met her husband John Dickinson. They had two daughters before moving to Coralville, Iowa and welcoming two more daughters. After her husbands death, she returned to school for her
masters degree. She was employed as a clinical dietician in the University of Iowa hospitals, working with renal and bone marrow patients, all while raising her family as a single mother.
After retirement she eventually moved to Phoenix Arizona to be near her daughters and grandchildren. Not one to sit still for long, she found her passion working with the homeless, volunteering at The Andre House and other charitable organizations. She was also a passionate activist for many causes and participated in numerous peaceful protest events with her fellow advocates. Her compassion for her fellow human beings was well known in her community as was her dedication to her spiritual path, which she pursued passionately at the Franciscan Renewal Center. A lifetime music lover she sang in the church choir for as long as
her health allowed.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Anne and Madeline and her daughter Susan. She is survived by daughters Jean, Patty and Marybeth and her grandchildren Jimmy and Elliana Scappaticci as well as many friends.
