Betty Helen Flygt Marshall, 96, died February 9, 2024, peacefully in her own home. Betty was born in Park Falls Wisconsin in 1927. She attended The University of Wisconsin Madison and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Medical Technology. Shortly thereafter she moved southwest, determined to escape the frigid Wisconsin winters. She began her adventure with a dear friend in her convertible Studebaker in search of warmer, sunny weather. By the time they arrived in Phoenix, she knew she was home.
Betty married Peter (Edward A. Marshall Jr.) in 1951 and moved into their home on 15th Avenue. She worked for several years as a lab Technician at Good Samaritan Hospital. With the birth of their first son Ted in 1954, she decided to trade in her medical career for a career as a full time mother. She spent summers in Iron Springs, Arizona, where she and Peter owned a cabin until 1991. During the 1980’s they traded summers in the mountains with summers at the beach in California at Coronado. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed her bridge and other card games. She was a member of the Junior League of Phoenix. She and Peter loved to travel the world and attended cooking schools in both France and Italy.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Peter and son Ted. She is survived by three children Anne (Bob), Lisa (Lazaro deceased), and Scott (Jennifer) and daughter in law Bronwyn. She also is survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday March 9, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E Indian School Rd. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valley or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
