Evangelina “Angie” G. Bonillas, 83 years, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 11, 1938 to Joaquin and Herlinda Gastelum in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. The family moved to Phoenix when she was 5 years old and she was raised there. As a teenager Angie became a renowned Mambo dancer. She won numerous contests, received all kinds of recognition and was actually pursued to leave home to go perform by some Hollywood folks. Angie met the loved of her life, Arnold Bonillas. Together they raised a beautiful, loving family. Angie learned to be great cook where everyone would gather to enjoy her delicious food, everyone especially loved her tamales!
Angie is survived by her husband Arnold L. Bonillas; mother Herlinda Peralta Gastelum; two sons Arnold and Richard; brother Eddie Gastelum; sister Rosa Verdugo; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. with the funeral service starting at 3:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com.
