Rose Gayle Buck

Rose Gayle Buck, 88, long-time resident of Oakland, California, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on September 2. Born in Seoul, Korea, on February 7, 1929, to parents Chey Dae-Shik and Lee Sung-Nyo, she attended elementary through high school during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Following the Korean War, she attended college, first at Sue Bennett College in Kentucky, and then University of California at Berkeley, majoring in business. She married George Hayden Buck, who predeceased her in 1977, and together, in Oakland, California, they raised four children. She worked at U.C. Berkeley and Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, before earning a Master of Business Administration from Holy Names College and becoming an insurance agent with MetLife. In 2012, she moved to Phoenix and lived at Beatitudes Campus until her death. Her family includes sons; Charles (Susan) and Eugene (Beth), daughters; Nancy (Russ) and Elizabeth, and six grandchildren; Matthew, Sara, Emily, Ethan, Jordan and Gracelyn. A service celebrating her life will take place at the Everett Luther Life Center, Beatitudes Campus in Phoenix, on Wednesday, September 20, 2:30 p.m. Family requests donations be made to Beatitudes Campus (beatitudescampus.org). Funeral arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
