86, died April 2, 2015, Holy Thursday, surrounded by her loving family and the prayers of many. Born November 8, 1928, she was the daughter of Rosario and Lena Scheri. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Antonio Canepa, a dear son Nick and a loving and close sister Connie Duca. Born in Chicago and moving back to Italy at a young age, she then moved back to and lived in Indiana, returning the Chicago where she stayed until 1979 when she and her husband Nino and two sons Patrick and Nick moved to Phoenix, AZ. As part of the Greatest Generation, Mary knew what hard work, devotion and dedication, as well as sacrifice were all about. Making the most of her meager education, she devoted her life to being a wife and mother. Always teaching the importance of working hard and doing all you can for your family; her sons and family will always be grateful to her and Antonio for all they have ever done. Her greatest legacy will be her faith and love for God, Our Blessed Mother and all the angels and saints. Thank you Mom! Thank you Dad! It is that faith and those lessons handed on to her children and their families that is most treasured of all! It is also her sense of humor, playfulness and love for life that will be missed. She was blessed to be able to live and stay in her home of 35 years where she felt comfort and security, for as long as possible. Many wonderful meals and memories came from there and will always be treasured in our minds and a source of gratitude.
Mary is survived by her sons and their families, whom adored and loved her. Patrick and Theresa Canepa and their loving children Joe and April Garner, loving son Steve Stevens and loving and precious grandson Micah Stevens, who through their humor, developed a special bond. As well as many other family members, Nick and Rhapsody Canepa and their loving and precious son Ezekiel and many other family members included. Two surviving nephews in Chicago to whom she was very close and cared for, and by, are Frank and Reno Duca and wife Tina and their children Alaina and Carla in addition to many good, close and dear long time family and friends. Also many dear and loving family and friends in New York including Joe and Josephine, Anthony and Rose, Giovanni and all the Canepa families there and elsewhere that knew her and loved her.
