Carol Johnson Chase

Carol, 55, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017 after a sudden illness. Carol was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 21, 1961 to Walter and Marjorie Johnson. Carol graduated from Mounds Midway Nursing School in St Paul, MN and became a Registered Nurse in 1983. She accepted a position as a floor nurse at St Joseph’s Hospital in the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI), and moved to Phoenix in 1983. She soon transferred to the newly renovated Neuro Intensive Care Unit within the BNI. Carol worked diligently with the doctors and nurses in the Neuro ICU to help develop treatments and care protocols for many of the current life-saving techniques employed today for neurological care and rehabilitation. She worked in the Neuro ICU for over 24 years and then moved to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to specialize in post neurological surgical recovery, where she has worked for the last 10 years. Carol enjoyed her family and friends and was always ready to volunteer her time and help. While her sons were in grade school at Most Holy Trinity Catholic school, Carol spent many years working with the other mothers to improve the school grounds for the children. She helped build a labyrinth, install gardens, plant trees, plan and build a shaded lunch area, and worked on many art projects with the children. Carol’s love of gardening, acquired from her grandparents and her mother in Minnesota, continued in Arizona. Her two gardens in Phoenix and Forest Lakes always yielded bountiful harvests, which she shared with friends and her coworker family at St Joseph’s Hospital. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Walter; mother, Marjorie; and brother, Eric. Carol is survived by her husband Mike, son Kyle (Paige), son Colton (Amelia), brother Jim (Janice), her niece and nephews, and her extended Chase and Johnson family members. Please join Carol’s family for a celebration of her life at St Francis Xavier Church, 4715 North Central Avenue, on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at 10:00 in the morning, followed by a reception with food and refreshments in the St Francis Hall.
