George Robert Cooney

Passed away on October 9, 2016. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 18

th

, 1930 and moved to AZ in 1964. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War (1950-1954). He worked for Sperry Computers Systems as a Technical Manager for 28 years. He was a volunteer at the AZ Science Center, the American Red Cross, Central Chapter in the Communications Department and served as a Volunteer Licensed Examiner in the FCC Licensing Program for 19 years. His hobbies included amateur radio, golf, tennis and computers. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, son Paul Robert Cooney, two daughters, Vicki Godwin and Sandy Walker and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He will live in our hearts forever. A Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4715 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., followed by a reception. Burial will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers George requested donations be made in his memory to: TV Mass Diocese of Phoenix, 400 E. Monroe Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004. Arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
