Erin Emilia Covarrubias

Erin Emilia Covarrubias was taken from her family in a tragic accident on Monday evening, August 3, 2020.

Born in Phoenix she brought joy, beauty and a quick wit to our family. She was a precocious and sassy child and despite being a social butterfly she excelled in school.

Everyone was her friend and her teachers always spoke highly of her. Erin was gifted in so many ways. She performed contemporary dance with her dance class at Centennial High School. She sang with the children’s choir at St. Joan of Arc Parish and she enjoyed painting and sketching, even creating her own font types. Erin loved watching movies with her family and she and her brothers made a game of quoting movie lines with each other.

Some of her favorite things included the color green, the K-Pop band BTS, Coach purses, Hot Cheetos, big lashes and pretty nails. But truth be told, she probably loved Hot Cheetos the most!

Her utter joy was being a sister. Having seven siblings kept her busy with swimming, crafts, and cooking. We will miss her dishes on Pasta Monday and all her baked treats. Did we mention that she loved Chinese food and pizza (our mother food) and just about anything her mom and dad cooked.

Her love of our faith was a blessing to so many. She was fearless in defending life on social media and took part in the local March for Life with her grandmother. She attended the annual Catholic Women’s Conference and looked forward to volunteering at the conference in the future.

Just 17, she had her whole life ahead of her as she was beginning her senior year of high school and was on track to graduate early. Her goals for this year included building great relationships, getting her license, and saving money.

She was the best of all of us. She was gentle, loving, beautiful and kind. She has left a void in our family that can never be filled.

Erin is survived by her parents, Jonathan and Denise Covarrubias, her siblings, Noah, David, Isaiah, Josiah, Jordyn, Zechariah and Cephas, her grandmothers, Roberta Bazaldua and Mary Aguirre, her uncles Anthony Bazaldua and Ricky Baca, and her aunt Anna Aguirre and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who are family. She is preceded in death by her sister Samantha and her great-grandfather, Robert Bazaldua.

Visitation and Rosary will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Avenue, Phoenix on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. with concluding Rosary. The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle with Burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
