Boris William Dimitro, beloved husband and dad, former Motorola Vice President, Phoenix resident for 44 years, returned to his holy father on May 26, 2014. William was born July 6, 1929 in Rochester, NY to Valjean William Dimitro and Helen Tajak Dimitro, the first born child of 3 – Michael William of Florida and Patricia Helen (deceased). He attended Roosevelt High School and trained daily in hopes of competing on the Olympic Swim team. After graduating from Roosevelt H.S. in Yonkers, NY, he joined the U.S. Marines, serving 4 years in Camp Lejeune and in Guam during the Korean War. He was discharged 1951 with the rank of Staff Sgt. After serving his country he returned to school. Bill attended The University of New York Culinary Institute, and was elected President of his class. He was awarded the Knott Hotel Scholarship allowing him to train in New York’s most prestigious hotels and restaurants. Bill joined Union News Corp. in 1964, serving as the youngest manager of the famous Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station, and soon after opened up Union News restaurant facilities all along the N.Y. Thruway, Massachusetts Turnpike, and the G.E. Electronics Park in Liverpool, NY. He later attended Cornell University. In 1953 William married Jeana Nugent and had five children. Recruited by Motorola Corp. in 1966, he became their International Dir. Of Food Services headquartered in the Chicago area. As Motorola’s Phoenix facility grew, Bill and family moved to Arizona in 1969. He opened up food service facilities for Motorola plants in England, Scotland, France, Germany, Italy, as well as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Malaysia. His fairness and likeability gave Motorola reason to promote him to Human Resources Corporate Vice President Worldwide 1982. Bill retired from Motorola in 1995. On October 18, 1980 Bill married Sandra Shinkle Birch. Sandra’s four children and Bill’s five children became the Dimitro Family. William B. Dimitro is an honorable and much beloved family man. He will be greatly missed by all of his family including his wife of 34 years Sandi, and their children, Karen, Brian & Heather, Leslie & Brad, Claudia, Meredith & Jay, David, Denny, Chris & Jenny, Joel & Adriana. Grandchildren Brielle & David, Brendan, Shane, Lily, Paul Parker, Conner, Josh, Megan & Chad, Sister-in-law Audrey Schaeffer, Eric and Glen, Sister-in-law Linda and Jack Cottrell and Mother-in-law Mamie Shinkle. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of Arizona. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
