Jacob Patrick Dohogne
Our son, Jacob Patrick Dohogne, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Jacob, often hailed by “JP”, was born November 24, 1998 at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Jacob was the eldest son and is survived by his Father Mark Dohogne, Stepmother Marilyn Dohogne, Mother Jill Anderson, Brothers Adam Dohogne and Luke Dohogne, Stepbrother Tom Preston, and Stepsisters Aubrey Atkinson, and Sofia Preston.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1998, Jacob was diagnosed with a fatal heart condition. Jacob was given a blessed miracle on April 20, 1999 at Denver Children’s Hospital. Jacob took every advantage of this blessed opportunity with faith, courage with resolve, and strength of character. In other words, “Grit”. Jacob graduated St Mary’s Parish school, Heritage High school, and Colorado State University with a BS in marketing…. All with Honors.
JP was a thrill seeker. Jumping off ladders, going fast on anything with wheels, or standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon with no guard rail just weeks ago. The secret purchase of a motorcycle racing helmet in high school confirmed the “gene”. JP was extremely loving, caring, intelligent, educated, and blessed with humor. JP watched informational videos much faster than normal speed to learn faster. He became extremely knowledgeable on cars, motorcycles, firearms, hunting, fishing, camping, survival skills, and airplanes. He was also fascinated by the history of World War II. JP built over 25 different models of WWII airplanes and hung them from his bedroom ceiling in formation. JP enjoyed many camping, fishing and hunting trips with family, and loved the outdoors. JP loved the game of baseball. He played in the Arapahoe Youth League and played through sophomore year at Heritage High School. His coaches always commented how well he understood “the game”. Jacob also loved bacon by the pound, and peanut butter smeared on hamburgers!
JP’s sense of humor and laugh was one of a kind. He recognized extreme oddity in situations and exposed off the wall perspectives. His statements made people pause to recognize the sarcasm. He also accelerated any unwanted conversation by answering with only 1 word (yep – nope – sure), earning the title of “1-word Jake” from nurses and doctors. His wit kept you on your toes.
Jacob was diagnosed with cancer in his senior year of high school, where family and friends, and the Heritage HS baseball family came to his side with incredible love and support. Despite chemotherapy, JP achieved a 4.3 GPA while taking AP Chemistry and History. He enjoyed tormenting nurses by turning off the alarms and removing his own I-V after treatments, as he wanted to be anywhere else but in a hospital. JP was in and out of remission 3 more times during college, and still graduated on time. With a job offer in hand, JP had plans to move to Houston TX, as he loved the heat and the potential of fishing in the Gulf. The last diagnosis was dire, although he NEVER gave up, and faced it head on, again with grit. No matter how miserable the situation, or how high the pain, he never complained or felt sorry for himself. Jacob never wanted anything handed to him, he always wanted to earn it.
His heart never failed him and was the toughest kid we know! We were blessed with a fun-filled summer with family and a beautiful passing into our Lord’s arms while Mark and Marilyn held him. He will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched and inspired. We love you Jacob!!!
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, a cancer research center of your choice, or the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and hug your kids every chance you get.
Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19 , 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
On October 7, 2020 a Mass will be celebrated at Noon, at St. Mary’s Parish, 6853 S. Prince St. Littleton, CO 80122.
