Donald “Don” Albert McDermott, age 85, passed away on March 7, 2024, in the comfort of his home as per his wishes. While Don was born in New York, he always loved the diverse beauty of the Arizona landscape and when he moved west, he met and married the love of his life, Carol. Don was an electrical engineer who worked on Boeing 737 flight systems at Sperry which later became Honeywell. He was a train enthusiast and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and hiking. He enjoyed nothing more than sharing these activities with his beloved family.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol, and their three children, Patricia (Michael), Kathleen “Kathy” (Wilmer “Sonny”), and Michael (Leslie); five grandchildren (Joshua, Matthew, Emma, Audra, and Devin), and four great-grandchildren (Rae, Drew, Savannah, and Abigail). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy; 32 nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends.
Don had an infectious smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a strong work ethic. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend. He will be deeply missed! We would like to think of his passing as him boarding that final train northward, after a life well-lived. When you see a train or hear its whistle, remember Don, and know he is watching over you!
