Dorothy Burns

Dorothy Burns, 94 years old of Phoenix, Arizona, went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2023. She was born on September 25, 1929, to her parents Joseph McManus and Kathleen Allgaier in the small town of Easton, Missouri. She was the 3rd of 15 children and was their oldest daughter. Dorothy went on to achieve her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and then moved to Arizona in 1969 to work on some higher education in Microbiology thereafter at Arizona State University. She worked for many years as a medical technician at Columbia Hospital and then Doctor’s Hospital now known as Phoenix Childrens Hospital. But the job she would say she was most proud of was being a mother to her 8 children.

Dorothy’s Roman Catholic faith with also very important to her and therefore became a parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church in 1969. She was very involved with her Parish including prayer groups, providing home bound communion to those who could not attend Mass, a eucharistic minister at Mass, and would wash, iron and stitch vestments for the clergy, just to name a few of her many contributions to her Catholic community.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Kathleen McManus, and her infant son David Burns. She is survived by her daughters Dru Bloomfield (Myron), Danna Minch, Dede Nitchie, and Debby (Tom) Burbeck; her sons Chris Burns, Tim (Pam) Burns, and Larry (Jennifer) Burns; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way. She will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 5:00 P.M., on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., in Phoenix. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Rd., in Phoenix. Entombment will be private for the immediate family.
