With sadness the children of Olga Ann Egyed (née Martin) tell of her passing on Sunday, July 5, 2020. She was 95 years old and living in Glendale Arizona at the time.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 30, 1924. She always insisted that we celebrate her birthday, because she did not want it to be forgotten between the holidays. She was the second child of Louis and Elizabeth Martin who were both from Hungary. She was predeceased by her brother Arthur Marton, her sister Helen Marko and her husband Jim. She married Emmerick John (Jim) Egyed in 1946 in Cleveland Ohio. She is survived by four children, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She and Jim moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1956 and shortly after moved into a home near Saint Theresa’s church. They were very active in that church. Mom was a wonderful cook and baker. Neighborhood kids used to hang out at our house to see what was being cooked that day: doughnuts, cakes, fresh noodles drying out all over the house and wonderful Hungarian meals. She also was a fantastic seamstress, often making matching clothes for all of her children. Oh and housecleaning: every Saturday was chore day for us kids. Until Mom left the house to run errands, and then we’d quickly run to watch cartoons on TV, until we heard her come back, of course.
After our father retired they purchased an RV and started traveling around the country. And when he passed away our mother continued traveling, including going to places such as Tibet, China, Egypt, Fiji and Tahiti. She loved crocheting and made many crocheted donations to the Christ Child Society. And she made a crocheted sweater for one of our dogs!
A graveside service will be held at Saint Francis Catholic cemetery on July 15 at 9 AM.
