Emily Castro Betancourt (aka) Emilia Natalia Castro, December 02, 1926 - March 21, 2024
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, aunt, and sister-in-law, passed away at home peacefully at the age of 97. Her life was filled with love and support as she cherished her time with her family.
She was born in Miami, AZ. to Camilo and Isabella Castro, and lived a fulfilling life until she was called home to be with her beloved husband of 70 years Refugio M. Betancourt, and her eldest son Joseph C. Betancourt. She was the proud grandparent and a legacy to 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Nana Emily cared for all her grand & great grandkids, would baby sit friends’ children on a moment’s notice. Emily had a passion for reading and writing that won her awards at school for her poems and in penmanship skills. She also enjoyed and was quick at seek-n-find puzzles as well.
Emily is survived by her son Rudy C. Betancourt (Christina) who cared for her well over 15 years +, daughter Susie C. Gomez (Charles). Our mother had a life filled with love and made sure no one left without receiving their blessing from her, whether they were coming or going. Even the littlest ones would line up for their blessing. Emily had always been a homemaker and made sure to feed anyone that came to the house. She could whip up a breakfast in no time, and her salsa was also so delicious.
Emily was the eldest of her family and oversaw taking care of her 10 siblings. She was the first born of her siblings and last one to pass. Her presence will be greatly missed.
Mom’s favorite saying was, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal”.
