Charles W Fidler

Charles W. Fidler, 87, died peacefully at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital early on May 7, 2012 after a brief illness. His loving wife and best friend Eleanor H. Fidler was by his side. They had celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on March 19, 2012. Charles was born on April 24, 1925 to Lawson D. and Gladys Marie Fidler in Montour, IA. He was raised in Marshalltown, IA, moving to Chicago with his parents in his early teens. From Chicago, he entered the U.S. Army in July 1943 and served with Gen. George Patten’s 284th Field Artillery. He received four battle stars, including the Battle of the Bulge. He received his honorable discharge on January 12, 1946 and spent nine months in Hudson, WI before moving to Phoenix, AZ in December 1946 with his parents. He hunted in the mountains, and fished in the many lakes in the Valley – fishing being his favorite pastime. He became an electrician in 1949 and was very proud to have been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 640. He retired in February, 1987, and he and Eleanor enjoyed the leisure of time given to them for the next 25 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two nephews, Paul P. White (Jo) of Pequot Lakes, MN and Lawrence D. Tenes of Apache Junction, AZ, two nieces, Jannette Healy of Chaska, MN and Patricia Runner (Bruce) of Ames, IA and a cousin, Jack Smith (Norma) in Marshalltown, IA. He also has seven great nephews and two great nieces surviving him. He was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. At his request, services will not be held. His ashes will be inurned at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ.
