Robert Norman Field, Sr., 88, born in Phoenix, Arizona on August 19, 1929 passed away on January 12, 2018 at his home in Phoenix surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Josephine O’Donnell Field; his parents, George H. Field, Jr. and Laura J. Willoughby; his 4 brothers, Frank, George Jack and Eugene; his 4 sisters, Laura Alme, Margaret (Peggy) Hyland and Elizabeth Field. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan Dale Field, his sister Dorothy Herold, his children Robert Norman Field, Jr. (Kay), Cynthia (Cyndi) Durkee (Don), Harold E. Field, William D. Field; his step children Christopher Neideraurer (Myla) and Katie Ritz; 14 grandchildren; Cary Field, Holly Field La Brucherie, Jacob Durkee, Maria Durkee (Arvid), Monica Durkee, Hal Robert Field, Andrew Field, Shannon Field Schweser (Josh), James Field (Evelyn), Dana Field, Hannah Niederauer, Max Niederauer, Gabrielle Ritz and Sophia Ritz; great-grandson, Jack La Brucherie, great-granddaughters Gabrielle Cox and Allison Field; 54 nieces and nephews and numerous Field/O’Donnell great nieces and nephews. Bob (Papa) attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grammar School (Phoenix, Arizona), graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School (Phx, AZ) in 1948 and attended college at St. Mary’s College (Moraga, California). He grew up in the old Kenilworth School neighborhood on 5th Avenue and Culver. He was an avid swimmer and high diver and played football for St. Mary’s High School. Fr. Blaise Cronin, OFM (Deceased), a generous and loving priest who saw his potential, provided him encouragement, support and a scholarship to attend St. Mary’s College. His father George H. Field, Jr. was involved in the first Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Prescott, Arizona in 1918. Bob himself, retired in 1984 from an entire career with the Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Phoenix. Bob was a private pilot, an AKC Dog Show Judge, Handler and Breeder and a member and volunteer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Scottsdale/Phoenix Elks Clubs. “Papa” loved his family passionately and was so loved in return. The family asks that donations considered in Bob’s name be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society; Mission of Mercy in Phoenix, Arizona; the Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel, Oregon. A Visitation will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 N. Indian School Rd., Phoenix on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 20th, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Ave., Phx, with a Burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
