Frederick Michael Aeed, 85, died March 3, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Fred was born on May 9,1939 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Michael and Catherine (Coury) Aeed. He was a first-generation son of an immigrant family from Syria. Fred’s pop was known as the “Watermelon King” and until the end, Fred prided himself on his ability to pick out the sweetest watermelons. In 1951, Fred’s parents and 5 siblings moved to Arizona settling in south Phoenix at a home that is still there today. After graduating from Phoenix South Mountain High School in 1957, Fred attended and graduated from Arizona State University in 1961 with a degree in business. He was a lifelong Sun Devil football fan. After ASU, Fred enlisted in the Army and served through July 1965, leaving the service as a Second Lieutenant. While attending law school at the University of Arizona (only because ASU didn’t have a law school yet), Fred met the red-haired beauty Chaunci Chick. They were married on November 30, 1968, in Seattle, Washington and spent their honeymoon driving the Pacific Coast Highway. They built a home in north central Phoenix, where they raised three daughters, and were married for 41 years until Chaunci’s death on May 3, 2010.
Fred graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1968. He practiced criminal law for nearly 50 years as a solo practitioner. As one of the top DUI attorneys in the state, Fred was one of the first lawyers to specialize in defending DUI offenses and practicing DUI Law. Among his colleagues, he was a great lawyer and advocate for justice. In fact, many lawyers attributed their early success to Fred. As a respected trial lawyer, he had a unique and effective style in the courtroom. Known as a fantastic storyteller with a great sense of humor, everyone had a "Fred Story" to share. He respected the practice of law and considered it a great privilege to be a lawyer. Fred was one of the true originals, a real legend whose advocacy will not be forgotten among the courtrooms of Phoenix Municipal Court. His loss is the end of an era.
Fred and Chaunci traveled the world during their years together by land, air and sea: North America (including many ASU football trips), Europe, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Egypt, and cruising through the Panama Canal and around the tip of South America. In their later years, their favorite trips were to Rocky Point with their grandsons.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, sisters Freda and Emily and his wife Chaunci. He is survived by his three daughters Erica Aeed TeKampe (Peter), Stacy Aeed (Brett Ashton) and Amy Aeed (Brandy Wise); his two grandsons Henry and Jacob TeKampe; his sister Micki Moss, brother Jim Aeed and dear nieces and nephews.
An opportunity to share stories about Fred will be held at the Aeed family home on his birthday, Friday, May 9, 2025 from 3-7PM
