Alex H. Gehr, was born as Humberto Alejandro Gehr, on December 16, 1942 in Bogotá, Colombia. His parents were Conrad and Teresa Gehr. Alex peacefully passed away on Monday September 18, 2023 at the age of 80. Alex was a devoted, loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Aurora Gehr, his son Ronald and daughter-in-law Allison, his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law John Arthur along with 6 grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Noah, Max, Henry and Magnus. Also, there are 3 Great Grandsons: Giovanny, SJ, and Jonny. One thing that Alex truly treasured was to be called Opa, which is German for Grandfather!
In 1969 Alex moved to the USA to pursue the American dream. He came to Los Angeles to be near his cousin Helga Hansen then transition the family: Aurora, Ron and Jennifer to America. Alex began what would be a very successful career in international sales. He proved his outstanding entrepreneurial skills by starting Dawn International, a company he owned and operated that specialized in the sales and promotion of language translation software and hardware components that he sold throughout the world. One thing his children marveled at was the stories he could tell about work and vacation trips (often accompanied by Aurora) that he took throughout the US, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Alex shares his birthday with his favorite composer Beethoven. He would often take his family to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to watch the L.A. Philharmonic or the Hollywood Bowl to attend concerts. He also loved all types of Jazz, Latin music in all its forms and, was even a big fan of the Artist formally known as Prince. At dinner time, music was played to share his eclectic taste in music. Alex was an avid golfer and influenced his wife, children, grandchildren, and even a great-grandson to enjoy the game. Alex, enjoy your rest and please know that you are deeply loved and missed by many!
A funeral service to honor Alex’s life will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic Church, 2825 W. Rose Canyon Circle in Anthem, AZ. The eulogy will begin at 9:45 am, followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 am. The committal ceremony will take place immediately following the funeral mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. Afterwards a celebration of life reception will be held at Ironwood at Anthem Country Club in Anthem, AZ, for family and friends.
