Geraldine Ann McCabe, affectionately known as “Gerri” to all who cherished her, departed this earthly realm on November 5, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy imbued with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit. Born on September 30, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, Gerri became a luminous presence in the lives of her family and friends, a guiding light reflecting warmth and joy.
Her life was adorned with the sound of music and the rhythm of dance, passions she pursued with fervor, embodying the phrase “Dressed to the Nines.” Gerri exhibited a flair for life that resonated through the halls of her home and the hearts of those around her. Her affection for her grandchildren was unparalleled, endearingly referred to as “Munga” by her 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom found a special bond with their grandmother—a bond cultivated by shared joys and treasured memories.
Gerri was a devoted and loving mother, honored to call Timothy (Laura) Patrick, Michael (Jeanine), William (Jeanette), and Philip (Michelle) her sons, and proud to include her daughters Eileen and Noreen (Frank) in her family circle. She shared a unique bond with her beloved sister, Mary Nastali, and her brothers, James and John Callaghan, who, alongside her children, formed the tapestry of her cherished family.
In addition to her immediate family, her heart bore the weight of remembrance for those who predeceased her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “Jack” F. McCabe, as well as her parents, James E. and Agnes B. Callaghan. Gerri also mourned the loss of her brothers Robert and Thomas Callaghan, and her sisters, Patricia Callaghan and Jean Greco. Their spirits, no doubt, accompanied her as she transitioned to eternal peace.
Gerri immersed herself in the activities of her grandchildren, never missing a chance to cheer them on at their sports and dance recitals, embodying a nurturing spirit that vividly colored their upbringing. Each moment spent in their company deepened her vibrant legacy, as they continue to celebrate and honor her life, enriched by the values she instilled in them.
Her memory will be celebrated on Friday, November 22 2024, at St. Louis the King Catholic Church, 4331 W. Maryland Avenue in Glendale, Arizona 85301. The Mass will begin at 10:00 AM, a time for family and friends to gather, reflect, and honor a remarkable woman whose life resonated with grace and love.
Geraldine Ann McCabe will be forever remembered, as her essence lingers in the hearts of all who were fortunate to have known her. Her laughter, enthusiasm, and boundless love are blessings that will endure through generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace.
