Aurelia “Rae” Guthrie

Aurelia “Rae” Guthrie age 101 passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Rae was a dental hygienist before being married on May 10, 1947 to the love of her life James “Andy”. She was a devout catholic whose faith filled her heart providing the love and joy she radiated upon her family and everyone she met. Rae was a magical gardener who could grow just about anything from a seed into mature trees or a small cutting into the beautiful rose bushes still growing and blooming today. Walking 18 holes of golf was the norm and playing bridge with the ladies at the club was some of the hobbies she enjoyed immensely. Cooking and taking care of her family were her passions, all of us knew the food would be amazing just like Rae. Rae a native Arizonan born May 2, 1922 in Douglas Arizona daughter of Thomas and Gertrude Simon. Rae is survived by her two sons Robert Guthrie, Michael Guthrie and daughter Martha Miranda. Five grandchildren Rebecca, Jessica, Corie, Jaime and Aaron. Four great grandchildren Thomas, Robert, Riley and Hayden. She was pre-deceased by her husband James “Andy” Guthrie and son James Guthrie Jr. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be considered for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 9:30AM with funeral service to begin at 10:30AM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
