David Daniel Hafner

David Daniel Hafner was born in Phoenix, AZ, on December 10, 1951, to his loving parents Carmen and Dan Hafner. After a life filled with a story for every adventure, he succumbed to his battle with kidney disease and passed away on March 23, 2023 at 71 years old.

David was raised in the Phoenix West Valley. He attended St. Gregory’s Catholic School and Bourgade High School, until moving to Tempe to study at ASU. He was well known in his Tempe neighborhood for bicycling around to his favorite spots. He was a devoted Sun Devil Alumni. In fact, he was truly an avid Arizona sports fan. He had an opinion about every deal made to his teams and loved nothing more than watching the next game.

David was a proud historian, with a memory that all would be envious of. He was a man with the gift to tell a story, most often incredibly factual, but always with a bit of fun.

David enjoyed the Arizona outdoors, especially hiking in Prescott.

David spent his career working at ABPA as Pension Plan Administrator for multiple Construction Trade Unions.

Although David was an only child, one of his greatest gifts was being surrounded by lifelong friends that were truly his family. David is preceded in death by his devoted parents, Carmen and Danny. He is survived by many cousins, a lifetime of friends, and his loving goddaughter/niece, Rebecca “Becky” Waldron.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Arizona Humane Society in honor of David’s love of orange kitties.

Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 3424 N 18th Avenue, Phoenix, at 10 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 with a reception to follow. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com.
