On January 19, 2023,Margaret ‘Marge’ Pearl Hargett passed away peacefully in her home. She would have been 98 years old on January 28th. A lifelong Arizona native born to Fred L. Meeks and Abby Pearl Barkley. Margaret was well-loved. She was a loving wife and the mother of five children. She always provided support and love for her family.
She was born in Peoria, AZ and attended school in Glendale, AZ. When her mother passed, Margaret (10) went to live with her Aunt Lallah Barkley Ruth. She loved to share stories and adventures about her youth. Margaret had many friends and never met a stranger. She worked as a page at the Arizona State Capitol, as a crane operator repairing aircrafts during WWII at Williams Field Air Force Base, she worked at the Industrial Commission, and for the Town of Snowflake. After her husband Bill passed in 1976 she moved back to Phoenix to work at the MVD as a supervisor in Quality Control until she retired in 1989 .
Margaret was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Hargett, and by her daughters Sharon P. Scheade and Lallah E. Sparks, and her son John W. Hargett. She is survived by her daughter, Anita (Mike) Popovich and her son, Robert(Florencia) Hargett, her 16 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The family is thankful and blessed to have had Mom, Grandma, Granny Mom, GG in their lives for as long as they did. Funeral Service will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 11 am. Burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
