On the evening of, Thursday, November 28, 2024, Herminio Uria Marques passed away in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 84. He was born on March 29, 1940, to the late Melchor Marques and Jovita (Uria San Miguel) Marques in a peaceful part of Spain. Later in life on July 1, 1968, Herminio went on to marry Terry Rios in Madera, California cherishing fifty-six years of a loving marriage.
His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to hard work, community service, and an innate kindness that touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. A dedicated landscaper for many years, Herminio's passion for beautifying the land was evident in every project he undertook. Prior to his career in landscaping, he worked as a sheep header, demonstrating a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. His love for the outdoors extended to his personal life, where he found joy in nurturing his vegetable garden. He was known not only for his green thumb but also for the generosity he exhibited, often sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
An Elder Deacon at the Seventh Day Spanish Adventist Church, Herminio served his community with grace and compassion. His role as a volunteer for Hospice showcased his profound care for others, ensuring that those in need felt supported and cherished. Herminio’s dedication to helping people was a defining aspect of his character, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and service.
As we reflect on the life of Herminio Marques, we celebrate a man who epitomized hard work, generosity, and an enduring love for his family and community. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Melchor and Jovita Marques; two brothers Melchor Uria Marques and Angel Uria Marques; and a sister Pilar Marques of Spain.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Terry Rios Marques, as well as his children: Paul Marques of California, Herminio Marques Jr. of California, and Theresa Marques of Lubbock. He also leaves behind a brother Pedro Uria Marques of Phoenix, Arizona.
