Alice F. Hernandez
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Alice F. Hernandez, of Glendale on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the age of 73 years.
Alice, the third of five children was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1950 to Marcelino and Ruth Hernandez. Her childhood memories were filled with playing ball with her siblings in their backyard. Participating in high school sports at Carl Hayden High School encouraged her passion for athletics. She was team captain of the badminton team, played softball and set many records in track and field. Alice was highlighted as Top Falcon athlete her senior year. She continued her education at Phoenix Union College and completed her degree in Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1974, at Arizona State University.
Alice was an elementary P.E. teacher with the Glendale Elementary School District No. 40 for 43 years. She educated many generations and built strong friendships while teaching at William C. Jack School. During her educational years she continued to learn new sports such as downhill skiing, golf, tennis and bowling. Enjoying recreational sports leagues and happy hours with her colleagues kept her active and adventurous. Family gatherings and spending summers at Christopher Creek were her most cherished times. She was a devoted Arizona sports team fan and loved attending Phoenix Mercury games with her family.
Alice is predeceased by her father Marcelino Hernandez. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Ruth Hernandez, sisters Teresa Langford and Sylvia Hernandez, brothers David and Charlie Hernandez, 9 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and her dog Bailey.
A memorial service will be held at Whitney and Murphy Funeral home on Friday September 8, 2023 at 10am, 4800 E Indian School Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85018.
Interment to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48
