Carlos Flores Hernandez born November 13th, 1930 passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2011 after a long fight with cancer and Alzheimer’s. Carlos was born in Morenci, Arizona moving to Phoenix as a young boy. He is survived by his loving wife Rachel “Kela” Hernandez of 54 years; two son’s Charles and his wife Pamela and Philip with his fiancée Annalisa; granddaughter Charley and grandchildren Ernesto, Alicia and Anthony; and his brother Rudy. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph and mother Jessie along with two brother’s Roy and Robert. Carlos joined the Army and fought in the Korean War protecting our country and spent 30 years in the Arizona Air National Guard. Carlos retired after 35 years from the City of Phoenix, Water Services Department to enjoy helping raise his granddaughter Charley and spending time with his family.
Scripture Service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, May 28th, 2011 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Graveside Service will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at 2033 N. 48th Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Phoenix Walk to End Alzheimer’s on November 5th, under participant’s name Charley Hernandez, team name “A Walk for Carlos” at www.alz.org/walk
