Lori was born Larraine Ann Godwin, February 23, 1951 in Ottawa, IL to Donald Edward Godwin and Jo Anne Dickens. God took her home June 14, 2011 after a long and brave battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Robert; children Jason W. Bales, Joshua W. Bales, and Sarah R. Hungerford; grandchildren Zoey and Haley Bales, and brothers Gerald and Bruce Branchfield. Lori was a loving and loyal wife and mother. Professionally she was a paralegal for a number of Phoenix law firms. Upon retirement she worked as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher’s aide at St. Theresa Catholic School in Phoenix. There she found a warm family of co-workers and a student body who loved her. She had a gentle, nurturing spirit and smile that drew children to her. She was most drawn to those children that seemed troubled, bullied or alone, maybe sensing in them what Jesus Christ saw in them. She rarely ended a conversation with a family member or friend without saying, “I love you”. Lori loved to hug kids, tend her garden and sail the Pacific. She was an inspiration to many. Her services include a Visitation Sunday, June 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, and a Funeral Mass on Monday, June 20, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road. A Reception at the church will follow. Interment will be private at Paradise Memorial Garden, Scottsdale.
