Patrick Timothy “PT” Hurley, 49, loving husband to Bridget, devoted and proud father of Patrick (22), Moira (19), Rory (14), Sean (12), Gus (10), and Karl (7) passed into eternal life on January 7, 2022.
PT was the son of Pat & Madilyn Hurley. Pat’s greatest gift to his son was to encourage him to get sober at the age of twenty-one. This decision changed the course of his life forever.
He was the brother of Roxanne (Bruce) Logan and George McNeely. He was the favorite son-in-law of Pat Rush, beloved brother-in-law to Shawna Delzeith, Matt (Shannon), Paul (Beth) and Michael Rush and uncle to Jonathan and Danielle Delzeith, Josh Wiltshire, Nick Logan, Christopher and Julius Rush, and cousin, nephew and friend to many.
A native Phoenician, PT attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, Brophy College Prep, St. Mary’s Catholic High School, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and served in the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Battalion in Fort Lewis, WA.
The greatest adventure of his life began when he followed his best friend’s sister to Spain. True to his training he was focused on the objective and completed his mission by wooing Bridget with his goodness and getting married in 1999. Soon the mission expanded to include six children–each of whom delighted PT in their own unique ways. It was his life’s joy and honor to serve and protect the Hurley Regiment. Whether he was attending his children’s summer baseball games, high school cross country meets, watching them on the soccer field, or cheering them on in a flag football game, he encouraged them to stay strong and stay the course.
He was a loving presence in the home that helped them navigate life, resolve quarrels and endure difficulties with strength and intestinal fortitude. He did it with his signature wit, humor and the indefatigable esprit de corps of an elite soldier tasked with uniting his troops.
He was known as the family’s Camp Leader and enjoyed hunting, camping, going on road trips and was always up for a late night trip to Filiberto’s. He knew how to have fun and make as much noise as possible–no matter day or night.
PT’s love for Bridget was unwavering. He was proud to be her biggest fan. He was happiest in her company whether it was a walk on their street, a coffee date or camping in a tent with the little boys screaming and fighting themselves to sleep. He was always doing his best to make her life more comfortable, fun and full of laughter.
He was a God fearing man whose soft spoken demeanor belied the warrior within and the raw strength of his convictions. He had a knack for making people laugh and feel welcome. He gave completely of himself to help family and friends. He never wavered from the objective, never gave up, and never sacrificed his faith or principles. He Rangered up until the end and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
