Peoria

Judy Vargas, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early hours of March 23, 2025, earning her wings at the age of 76. Her journey through life, which began in Phoenix, AZ on July 29, 1948 as an identical twin to Julie, garnering the nicknames, Gorda y Wila. Encompassed by a large family, she had eight brothers and sisters with several aunts and many cousins. Influenced by her family to be a loving and caring woman, always devoting her time to others, she incorporated that into her motherhood. Judy fell in love at a young age and welcomed 5 children. After the ending of her first relationship, blessed with the utmost supportive parents, Judy stayed true to her children the best could as she learned to navigate through life working endlessly to fulfill the lives of her children ensuring they were taken care of.

In time, she gave love another chance and fell in love with husband, Carlos E. Vargas, and together the two became blended families. Judy served the state of Arizona for many years until her health decided she'd be more comfortable at home suiting the roles of homemaker and full time Nana. Judy’s talents were many of all trades, she was an extremely accomplished seamstress, gardener, exquisite cook and baker, vibrant fashionista; and had a keen eye for interior design integrating her visionaries to fruition. Everyone coveted Judy’s innovative hand at elegant decorating and style!

Judy was a two-time survivor of breast cancer. Her entire life was a battle against her own body, yet she always found a way to see the good in every situation. When things seemed impossible, Judy showed us that no challenge was too big. Despite other ailments and setbacks, her compassion, sense of humor, her humbled smile and will to live never wavered. She was like that cool breeze on a hot day and the warmth of the morning sun on your skin- nurturing, steady and full of light. Her heart and generosity knew no bounds.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Vera Villalobos, husband, Carlos Vargas, son, Charles Romo Jr., sisters, Julie “Wila” Bernal, Ragina “Raggie” Villalobos, Diana Villalobos-Chacon, and nephews’, Luis Villalobos, Raymond Bernal, and Varchito Bernal.

She is survived by her brothers, Henry “Buster” (Frances), Richard (Christina), Anthony “Tony”, Michael, sister, Esther Auvinen (Arnie); children, Tammy Villalobos, Barbara Romo, Theresa Romo and Peggie Murillo (Richard). A proud Nana of beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
