Julia Aslanian Karam

Julia Aslanian Karam, 89, passed away on Friday, January 11th, 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Julia was born on November 25, 1929, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in a close-knit Armenian community among relatives and friends. She attended Armenian School once a week to learn the language, and also sang in the church choir. After moving to Phoenix in 1946 with her family, Julia met the love of her life, George Karam, who was from a wonderful Lebanese family. Together, they raised three children, David, Mark, and Susan, in the Arcadia area of Phoenix. Julia was the ultimate homemaker, and her first priority was always her family. She was an amazing cook, and was well-known for her delicious bourma. Julia was instrumental in establishing the Armenian Church in Arizona, not only for herself, but for future generations. She was an avid sports fan, and would never miss a televised game of the Diamondbacks, Cardinals, or Suns. She also enriched the lives of others with her patience, love and kindness, especially for her three granddaughters, for whom Julia was especially proud. Julia is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by family and friends. Julia is survived by her daughter, Susan Kuberra, granddaughters Alexa (Layson), Kathleen “Kiki”, and Marisa Kuberra, brother Jerry (Gena) Aslanian, brother Paul (Lori) Aslanian, and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Apkar Armenian Church, 8849 E. Cholla St., Scottsdale, AZ, 85260, followed by burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ., A luncheon will follow at St. Apkar Armenian Church.
