Phoenix

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Katrina V. Chavez, who lost her courageous battle with cancer on January 18, 2025, at the age of 44. A beacon of love, strength, and resilience, Katrina’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her faith.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Katrina graduated from Alhambra High School in the Class of 1999 and pursued her dreams of higher education, earning a degree in Accounting from Grand Canyon University. She committed her career to public service, touching countless lives through her roles. Katrina began her professional journey with the Phoenix Suns, followed by dedicated work with the Arizona State Veterans as a fiduciary, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and her final position as a paralegal with the Anderson Law Firm.

Katrina's legacy is deeply rooted in her love for family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Steven Chavez, and their three beloved children: Dominic Chavez (21), Andrew Chavez (18), and Esmerie Chavez (7). Her parents, Carolyn Bejar-Rivera and Tomas Rivera, and Grandfather Fred Gonzales; half step-siblings, Elexis and Xavier Gonzales; Tommy, Demi, Erika Rivera, and nieces and nephews, will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vivian Bejar, Jaime Bejar, and Mercy Gonzales. Adored as well by her aunts, uncles, godparents, and a vast network of cousins and friends who were blessed to know her.

Katrina’s heart was boundless—always reaching out to help the homeless, offering support to friends and family, and spreading joy through her creative talents. She cherished crafting with her daughter and brought life to countless celebrations with her beautiful party creations. Above all, she committed her life to her children, fighting her illness with every ounce of her strength to ensure she could remain by their sides.

Katrina’s life will be honored on Friday, January 31, 2025, with services arranged by Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
