Kaye Ellen Martin Temple, proud mother, grandmother and wife, elementary school teacher and longtime aid to the late Sen. John McCain, died April 30 in Phoenix. She was 79. Kaye was born December 6, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, and was the daughter of James and LaDonna Martin. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Miami University in Ohio, she went on to work as an elementary school teacher in the Detroit suburbs. A few years later, she met her husband of 49 years, Russell Burke Temple.
Together, they built a life in Mesa, Arizona, where they raised two children and developed their careers. Kaye also volunteered for
organizations including the United Way, Mesa Lutheran Hospital and the Mesa Boys and Girls Club. While Kaye loved teaching and a love of learning remained at her core, she changed course after moving to Arizona to serve as staff to U.S. Rep. John Rhodes and McCain where she worked for 20 years in constituent services and mentoring interns.
Kaye’s true passion was always her family. She was the ultimate caretaker ensuring her parents, sister, husband, children, and grandchildren had everything they needed, often placing the well-being of others before her own. Those who met Kaye were taken by her elegance and overwhelming kindness, always preferring to step back so others could shine.
Kaye is survived by her daughter, Allison Temple Tiscornia (Mark); her son, Russell James Temple (Paula); her beloved grandchildren, Samuel Ronan Tiscornia and Benjamin August Tiscornia; her nephew, Tim Boehmer (Heather); and her niece, Jennifer Ziemer (John).
