Thomas C. Keenan

69, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully September 15, 2016, surrounded by his wife and four children. Tom was born to SGT Joseph and Nellie Keenan in Beaver, IA on September 29, 1946. Tom attended Arizona State University after graduating from Ogden (Iowa) High School. “Pie” (Tom) obtained a B.A. and M.A. in American Literature and was a member of the Phi Beta Gamma Fraternity. Tom served in the Peace Corps in Honduras, becoming fluent in Spanish, teaching advanced farming techniques. In 1979, Tom obtained his Real Estate License, joining Cushman & Wakefield, followed by Iliff Thorne until forming his own real estate brokerage. In 1997, Tom and family moved to La Jolla, CA, where he continued to excel in his Real Estate career. Tom had an infectious smile and contagious love for life. He enjoyed coaching and participating in his childrens’ sports and activities and playing with his grandchildren. Tom was a member of the CCIM Institute and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Tom is preceded in death by his parents SGT Joseph Keenan Sr. and Nellie Keenan; and brother Joseph Keenan Jr. Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Ballard-Dyer Keenan; Four children, Cristi Youngkin, Ryan Dyer, Shawn Ducusin and Kevin Keenan; Eight grandchildren, Alexa, Miles, and Connor Youngkin; Jackson, Jameson, and Javen Ducusin; Cash and Cole Dyer. He is also survived by his siblings James, William, Timothy Keenan, and sister Mary Pohlner. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at The Franciscan Renewal Center, 5902 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. A reception will follow at El Chorro Lodge, 5550 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rebuilding Together San Diego, 2013 Franklin Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. Arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
