Mary Agnes Knittel

Mary Agnes Knittel, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2017. Mary Agnes was born October 1, 1928 to Thomas and Agnes Murray in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. On July 5, 1947, Mary Agnes married Clifton Zindle, who preceded her in death on June 22, 1957. On February 18, 1974, Mary Agnes married Vincent Knittel, who also preceded her on August 22, 2016. Mary Agnes retired from Arizona Public Service Company. Following retirement, she was a long-time volunteer with the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, serving on its board and numerous committees. In addition, she enjoyed needlework and playing poker and Skip-Bo with her family. Mary Agnes is survived by her son Robert Zindle of West Linn, OR; her daughter Marilyn Fowells of High Point, NC; grandsons Joseph Fowells and Christopher Fowells; granddaughters Leslie Fowells-Nanney, Melissa Zindle and Laura Zindle; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; her sister and brother-in-law Jim & Ann Finnerty of Phoenix, AZ; step-sons Timothy Knittel and Peter Knittel of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Agnes was preceded by her brothers Paul Murray, James Murray and sister Sr. Agnes Louise Murray, IHM and grandson Scott Fowells. Her family wishes to thank her caregivers from The Visiting Angels, The Stratford Assisted Living Community and The Oasis at Fellowship Square for their kindness and compassion. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in the Ignatius Chapel at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 4715 N. Central Avenue, in Phoenix. Inurnment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
