On April 17, 2023, Dr. Ram R. Krishna passed away peacefully at the age of 77, after having lived an extraordinary life of service. Dr. Krishna earned his medical degree in India and completed his residency in general surgery and orthopedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident of Orthopedics.
Dr. Krishna went on to a long, distinguished career as an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in Yuma, Arizona. In addition to his thriving practice, Dr. Krishna spent his life devoted to leadership and community service. He served as Chief of Staff for the South East Arizona Medical Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the South East Arizona Medical Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Yuma Regional Medical Center, Chair of Surgery at Yuma Regional Medical Center, President of the Yuma County Medical Society, President of the Arizona Medical Board, President of the Karnataka State Medical and Dental Alumni Association, Executive Committee Member of the Arizona Orthopedic Society, Director of the Federation of State Medical Boards, Chairman of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, and was appointed as a Regent on the Arizona Board of Regents overseeing Arizona’s three public universities. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Arizona Asian American Association and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona Medical Association.
Dr. Krishna is survived by his wonderful wife Meera, and his proudest achievements, his daughters: Sunita, a superior court judge, and Rupa, a family practice physician. He is also survived by his loving sons-in-law Manuel, an attorney, and Jason, an interventional radiologist, who he treated like his own sons, and three beautiful grandchildren who he adored. He will be forever missed by his family and numerous friends and colleagues.
