FLOYD DEAN LEWELLEN
September 28, 1938 – April 28, 2022
Born in Hutchison Kansas to Lois and Floyd Lewellen. Dean joined the Air Force at 17 and after boot camp, he was stationed at Luke Air Force base in Arizona. There he met his first love Sylvia. They married and had 5 children, all the while moving around the U.S. and world working as an air traffic controller. He retired a Master Sergeant after 22 years of service and became a civil servant teaching pilots at Williams Air Force base and Tinker Air base in Oklahoma. They moved back to Arizona where he started a new career with Hewlett Packard. After 38 years of marriage, cancer took his wife Sylvia. Dean remarried for 20 years and after divorce, he moved to Mesa and retired from HP. There he met his fiancé Mireya.
Dean was preceded in death by his first wife Sylvia Ann Sheridan Lewellen, daughters Rene Stover and Virginia Lewellen, son Deano Lewellen, both parents, brother Rex and sister Opal Lee. He is survived by brothers Ken (Gayle) Rathbone, Steve (Beverly) Rathbone, sister Doris Jean Hull, daughters Ava (Eric) Fortin, Kimberly (Marty) Feldhake, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, with one great-great grandchild on the way and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with Rosary at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Whitney Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix AZ 85018. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 N. 3
