Michael “Mickey” Patrick Mahoney, age 42, passed peacefully on May 13, 2023. He was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona.
In his youth, Mickey was a member of the Arizona Puma Track Team and went all the way to the Junior Olympics, in Lincoln, Nebraska where he competed in a triathlon. At age fourteen, he had the first of two successful liver transplants.
He graduated from Deer Valley High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Film and Television Production from The Art Institute in 2018. He wrote and directed short films and received “special selection,” for Mr. E Comics at the Phoenix Comicon in 2009.
Mickey had an unwavering positive attitude and an endearing manner about him that drew people to him. He shouldered his medical issues, rarely speaking of them and he was very active with the American Liver Foundation in promoting organ donating, also participating in many fundraisers for this cause.
Mickey’s passions were writing, painting and being a devoted Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed watching movies and reading too. What he cherished most was the time he spent with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all. After a courageous battle, Mickey succumbed to cancer.
Our beloved Mickey is survived by his mother, Linda Carroll (Felix), father Michael T. Mahoney (Sue), his sister Katie Mahoney, his brothers Shad Newkirk (Michelle), Felix T. Carroll (Chelsea), Ruben Carroll (Veronica), four nieces and four nephews. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com.
