Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Mankowski passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 82 years. She was born on April 20, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Edward and Rose (Heim) Haselkamp. She attended Pius High School and married the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Robert Mankowski in 1957. In 1964, they moved to Arizona, where she earned her Associate’s Degree at Mohave Community College and subsequently her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Psychology from Northern Arizona University. She worked as a nurse for 8 years and was active in Big Sisters. An avid quilter throughout her life, she was a member of the Coconino Quilters and was known for making and giving beautiful homemade quilts as gifts to friends and family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother John Haselkamp, sister Mary Ann Cameli, and grandson Taylor Chan. She is survived by her husband Robert; sister Janet Schuerman; brother Daniel Haselkamp; her five children James Mankowski (wife Kirsten Aamodt), Linda Mankowski Chan, John Mankowski (wife Susan), Beth Mankowski Penney (husband Jeff) and Mary Mankowski Benton; grandchildren Abby Chan, Emily Mankowski, Evan Mankowski, Sarah Penney Whipple (husband Alex), Katherine Penney, Hannah Penney, Matthew Benton and Christopher Benton; great-grandson Beckham Whipple; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Angels at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
