Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend

Maria Bañuelos, a woman of strong faith, and endless generosity, peacefully joined our Lord surrounded by her cherished family on February 5, 2025. She leaves behind an imprint that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her. 

Born to Alfredo Cerros and Maria del Refugio Alvarado, Maria was raised in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Maria’s love story began in Ciudad Juárez, where she met the love of her life at a dance. Legend has it that for both, it was love at first sight. She married her husband on September 15, 1969, and together, they created a beautiful life. After two years in Juárez, Maria and her husband pursued the American dream, settling in Phoenix in 1971 where they raised their five children. 

A proud homemaker, Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She was a pillar of strength, a source of love, and the glue that kept her family close. She affectionately gave nicknames to those she loved and had a gift for storytelling—her vivid memories and captivating tales made everyone feel as if they had lived them alongside her. 

Maria’s heart was as radiant as her faith. She proudly carried on traditions for the family which always included the comfort of food, nourishing not just the body but the soul. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter—where everyone who came through her doors was invited for a warm meal. Whether leading the family in praying the rosary on Christmas Eve or bringing everyone together to celebrate Día de los Reyes Magos, she ensured that faith and tradition remained at the heart of family gatherings. 

Maria and her husband shared a love for travel, exploring the world together and creating beautiful memories along the way. But no matter where she went, her heart was always with her family. She was immensely proud of her 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and she embraced each role—wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—with deep devotion and joy. 

Maria is survived by her beloved husband, Antonio Bañuelos, their children Laura (Gil), Maria (Joe), Tony (Elizabeth), Jesus (Marisela), Crystal (Josh), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with her sisters, Juana Gaytan and Gloria Herrera. 

Her laughter and kindness will be deeply missed, but the stories she told, the love she gave, and the faith she lived by will continue to inspire generations to come. 

Maria’s life was a testament to the beauty of family and faith. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will remain forever in our hearts.

Amada esposa, madre, abuela y amiga

María Bañuelos, una mujer de fe y generosidad infinita, se unió pacíficamente a nuestro Señor rodeada de su querida familia el 5 de febrero de 2025. Deja una huella que vivirá para siempre en los corazones de quienes la conocieron. 

Nacida de Alfredo Cerros y María del Refugio Alvarado, María se crió en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. La historia de amor de María comenzó en Ciudad Juárez, donde conoció al amor de su vida en un baile. Cuenta la leyenda que para ambos fue amor a primera vista. Se casó con su esposo el 15 de septiembre de 1969 y juntos crearon una vida hermosa. Después de dos años en Juárez, María y su esposo persiguieron el sueño americano y se establecieron en Phoenix en 1971, donde criaron a sus cinco hijos. 

Orgullosa ama de casa, la mayor alegría de María era su familia. Ella era un pilar de fortaleza, una fuente de amor y el pegamento que mantenía unida a su familia. Cariñosamente ponía apodos a sus seres queridos y tenía un don para contar historias: sus vívidos recuerdos y sus cautivadores cuentos hacían que todos sintieran como si los hubieran vivido junto a ella. 

El corazón de María fue tan radiante como su fe. Ella continuó con orgullo las tradiciones de la familia que siempre incluían el consuelo de la comida, nutriendo no solo el cuerpo sino también el alma. Su cocina era un lugar de calidez y risas, donde todos los que cruzaban sus puertas eran invitados a disfrutar de una comida caliente. Ya sea guiando a la familia a rezar el rosario en Nochebuena o reuniendo a todos para celebrar el Día de los Reyes Magos, ella se aseguró de que la fe y la tradición permanecieran en el centro de las reuniones familiares. 

María y su esposo compartían el amor por viajar, explorar el mundo juntos y crear hermosos recuerdos a lo largo del camino. Pero no importa a dónde fuera, su corazón siempre estuvo con su familia. Estaba inmensamente orgullosa de sus 13 nietos y 6 bisnietos, y asumió cada papel (esposa, madre, abuela y bisabuela) con profunda devoción y alegría. 

A María le sobreviven su amado esposo, Antonio Bañuelos, sus hijos Laura (Gilberto), María (Joe), Tony (Elizabeth), Jesús (Marisela), Crystal (Josh), nietos, bisnietos, junto con sus hermanas, Juana Gaytán y Gloria Herrera. 

Extrañaremos profundamente su risa y su amabilidad, pero las historias que contó, el amor que brindó y la fe por la que vivió seguirán inspirando a las generaciones venideras. 

La vida de María fue un testimonio de la belleza de la familia y la fe. Aunque ya no camine a nuestro lado, su espíritu permanecerá para siempre en nuestros corazones.
