Maria G. Matson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on July 23, 1948, to Herbert and Grace Jeffreys, Maria’s life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering compassion. Maria is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Nigel; her two cherished daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine; and her three treasured grandchildren, Evan, Teagan, and Gavin. Her family was her greatest pride, and her love for them knew no bounds Having lived in New York, New Jersey, Arizona, and Wales, UK, Maria embraced life's journey with a sense of adventure. After a career at Capital Airlines, she chose to dedicate herself to raising her family. Maria’s journey saw her traveling across the country, creating countless memories along the way. As her children grew, Maria’s heart turned to her passion for rescuing animals. She led Airedale Rescue for several years and built a home that welcomed and fostered those animals in need. Her selfless dedication to this cause touched the lives of countless animals and those who knew her. Maria’s favorite color was red—a hue as vibrant and warm as her spirit.
In her honor, the family kindly asks attendees to wear a touch of red and join them at her Memorial Mass, which will be held on March 29th at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church in Anthem, Arizona. Maria has been laid to rest at a private burial at St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. Her legacy of kindness, love, and devotion to others will live on through her family, her friends, and all the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
