Maureen Rita Marquez passed away at her daughter’s home in Chandler, AZ. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren Sunday evening, June 3rd, 2018, after a trying illness. Maureen was born December 30th, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph & Lucia Caraher, the youngest of four children. From kindergarten to senior graduation in 1955, she attended Academy of Our Lady Catholic School on the South side of Chicago. She went on to earn a Degree in Nursing from Saint Francis Hospital in 1958. She moved west from Chicago to join her sisters Mariam & Pat in Tucson, Arizona where she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and met her future husband, Dr. Alberto Marquez. On September 2, 1961 they married and went on to have five children. In 1978 they separated and Maureen moved the family to Prescott, Arizona. In 1983 the family moved to Mesa, Arizona. Where she returned to work as a full time nurse until her retirement in 1995. Maureen enjoyed an active prayer life, reading, painting, gardens, good conversation with family and friends. and sharing her faith.
All who knew Maureen experienced her amazing, gentle loving and caring manner. She had the Heart of an innocent child and the courage, strength, and perseverance of a Soldier of Christ. She lived in thought, word, and deed the two commandments Jesus Christ gave us; First, to love God with one’s whole heart, mind, body, & soul, and Second, to Love one’s neighbor as oneself. Maureen is survived by her five children Teresa Limon, John Marquez, Susan (Gonzales) Marquez, Margaret Marquez, & Elizabeth Marquez, her six Grandchildren, Anthony Limon, Joseph Limon, Gabrielle Limon, John Limon, Gabriela (Gonzales Marquez) Thurau, Marielle Marquez Gibbons, and Great Grandchild, Genevieve Thurau & soon to be born John Paul III Thurau.

Visitation held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E Indian School Rd.in Phoenix. The Funeral Mass held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Our Lady of the Sun Catholic Church, 12534 W Peoria Ave., El Mirage. Internment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa.
