Isabel “Machi” Ojeda Martinez (76), of Nogales, Sonora Mexico passed away on July 30th, 2023. Machi was born on April 7th, 1947. Machi is survived by her two daughters, Tina Martinez and Rosie Lagarda, her sister, Leoner Cota, her two brothers, Julian Ojeda, Ernesto Ojeda, her late sister Norma Sepulveda, parents Julian and Isabel Ojeda. Her grandchildren; Lexi Lagarda, Javier Lagarda and her late first born, Daize Marai Martinez.
Machi moved to Phoenix in 1965 at the young age of 18 and found her soulmate, Arturo Martinez and married him in 1969. They were married for 30 years. Machi loved being a homemaker! She danced to the tunes of cumbias and took delight in cooking and caring for her family. Machi had many many lifelong friends that she welcomed in her home.
As time moved along, Machi moved back to Nogales to live, though she traveled back and forth from Nogales to Phoenix to be a nanny to Isabella Barraza who was like her grandchild. She loved taking care of her and she called her Nana Machi. She also loved her grandchildren and loved giving a helping hand to raise Lexi, Javier and her late granddaughter, Daize.
Her time in Nogales was spent working at Walmart in the fabric department sharing her creativity. She helped to take care of her sisters and family in Nogales.
A major theme of Machi’s life was to Love and Give to her family and friends. She loved people unconditionally and made people feel welcomed in her home. She served over 30 years volunteering at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. She was part of the Guadalupana’s. She was a teacher of Love and forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be from 5pm – 8pm on Wednesday, August 9th with rosary prayers at 6pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 10th at 10am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix.
