Mary Frances Connor Ragsdale passed away peacefully and with grace on April 7th, 2024. She was born to William Francis and Emma Long Connor on January 27th, 1921 in Aliceville, Alabama. Mary grew up in Macon, Mississippi and had an idyllic childhood. She attended Mississippi State College for Women for two years and transferred to the University of Alabama where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation from college, she trained flight attendants for Chicago and Southern Air Lines which later merged into Delta Airlines.
Mary met her future husband, William (Bill) Ragsdale, MD in Memphis where he practiced medicine. They were married in November 1945. After several moves for Bill’s specialty training in Dermatology they settled in Phoenix in 1951 where they raised four children, Jack, Frank, Lisa and Chuck.
Mary was active in her community belonging to All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Junior League, Board of Visitors, Diggers Garden Club, the Affluent Society, Valley Field Riding and Polo Club and Phoenix Country Club.
Mary was loved and adored by her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining and her hospitality was renowned. Mary was a cheerleader to all, a confidante and best friend to many people. She had a smile that would light up a room and a gift of making everyone feel important in her life. She brought joy, happiness, devotion and laughter to all.
Mary was a devout Christian and she lived life in appreciation for her many blessings. Mary’s kindness, love and friendship will surely be missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and her son, Chuck. She is survived by her two sons, Jack Ragsdale (Irma), Frank Ragsdale and her daughter, Lisa Ragsdale Cooper, five grandchildren, Patrick (Kelley), Molly (Evan), Annie (Ben), Mary (Jason), Jake (Kacie) and eight great grandchildren, Nolan, Bennett, Oliver, Emma, George, Jackson, Heidi and William.
A private family service will be held at a future date.
