Mary Vetting Large, 102, passed away on May 9, 2024 at her home in Phoenix, Arizona. Mary was born in Arvada, Colorado on June 23, 1921 to Fredrick and Olive Vetting.
Her husband, Robert, passed in 2003 after 55 years of marriage.
Mary was a 2nd grade school teacher for 24 years in the Madison School District at Rose Lane in Phoenix. She was loved by her students and greatly missed when she retired in 1987. After retirement, Mary embraced her love of the arts and took painting classes in many different styles. She spent many an hour in her studio creating lovely works of art. She created hand-drawn cards with personalized poems or haikus that she would attach to presents for her loved ones. Mary was particularly fond of holidays, especially Halloween and the St. Patrick's Day. Her house was decorated in the festive colors of the season, including a special holiday gnome she would display.
Mary will be laid to rest with her husband in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on May 21, 2024. A celebration of life will be held following the service so that her friends, neighbors and "adopted" family can reminisce about the wonderful impact she’s made on so many lives.
