Violet Patricia Beryl McCarville, 92 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 9:30 P.M. Patricia, also known as Patty Poo, Mumsie, and Grandma Pat to those closest to her, was surrounded by her family during her last few days. When she was ready, she passed over the bridge and was greeted by those she loved who had gone on ahead.
Patricia was born in London, England on May 14, 1926 to Len and Grace Brice. She grew up in England during WWII and worked in the Admiralty’s Office doing administrative work. She met her first husband, George, during a military dance; they married in England in 1945 and later moved to Canada to start a family. She had two daughters, whom she loved more than life itself. In 1961, she and her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she lived for the rest of her life. In time, she and George divorced. She met her second husband, John, at another dance. They married in 1970, and remained married until his passing in 2016. And despite being in a wheelchair, Patricia never let her inability to walk stop her. She learned to drive a car with just her hands, traveled to and from the grocery store and the mall by herself, flew to visit her family in Colorado and California, and lived life to the absolute fullest. She was incredibly strong.
Patricia is remembered by her family as the most loving mother and grandmother anyone could ever hope or wish for. Family was the most important thing to her, and she spent every single waking minute thinking of her family and buying them way too much stuff from QVC. She was giving to a fault – if she thought you needed it, or could use it, she would give you her last penny and feel the happier for it. She loved Cadbury chocolate, strawberries, fish ‘n chips, swans, red roses, cheesy romance novels, gossip magazines, filling out the crossword puzzles in the TV guide, and a bean-burro enchilada style with extra lettuce from her favorite Mexican restaurant, the Tee Pee. If she was upset with you, she would jokingly threaten to “wheel away from home.” She had an infectious laugh and the warmest, best hugs. She was, above all, loved so deeply it defies our attempts to put it all into words. She will be missed immeasurably.
Patricia is survived by her sister Avis, her daughter’s Janette and Pamela, her grandchildren Cori and Ryan, and her great-grandchildren Skylar, Gavin, Flynn and Elliot. She is also survived by her eight stepchildren Patrick, Thomas, Mark, Frank, William, Michele, Zita and Annie, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her grandson Jeffrey and her husband John.
