George Louis Meza passed on to heaven to be reunited with his beloved parents, Henry R. and Connie R. Meza, leaving behind his most devoted wife of 51 years, Katie Leon Meza. Born on February 5, 1935, George attended St. Mary’s Elementary and High School, Phoenix College, and excelled as a football player. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was selected to play for the Army’s football team. George became an expert carpenter, tile setter and concrete man. He converted his garage into a custom made kitchen complete with restaurant equipment that allowed him to engage in his passion for cooking, which he inherited from his parents. His cooking was diverse and ranged from a seven course Chinese dinner to his famous tamales, which he proudly sold or gave away for Christmas. George remained “the best cook” in a large family that loves to cook. A proud graduate of the St. Mary’s High School Class of 1953, George was well known for sharing generous doses of kindness, humor and a guaranteed celebration of life with family and friends. George had numerous friendships, many he knew and valued since childhood. His pride and joy were his 5 sons, Greg (Vanessa), John, Edward (Toni), Pat (Jamie), David (Amy), and 16 grandchildren. He was a man with a deep Catholic faith in God, drawing comfort in his daily recitation of the rosary.
